Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) has announced that he, along with fellow House Republicans, will launch an investigation into Democratic censorship of One America News Network (OAN).
In an interview with OAN, Rep. Carter said that by using the new power Republicans have in controlling the lower house, he will investigate Democratic members of the Energy and Commerce Committee to find out if they used political pressure to get AT&T and Verizon to blacklist the conservative outlet.
“What we have seen in the Energy and Trade Committee is nothing more, in my opinion, than interference by members of our committee, who have sent letters and asked the companies for information on what they said was misinformation being spread by certain platforms and companies,” Mr. Carter said. “Shortly after that you see some of the conservative channels and some of the conservative networks being dropped by AT&T and Verizon… One America News is an example of that. »
Carter went on to say that the abandonment of these conservative channels “raises questions about whether the federal government, members of Congress have any influence on these companies and push them to suppress conservative voices. »
“Look, I believe in freedom of speech,” Carter said. “I believe more talk is anecdote as opposed to less talk…I believe less government is better government. »
“The federal government shouldn’t get involved in private companies, companies like this,” Carter added.
Georgia’s representative then told the OAN that one of the top priorities of the 118th Congress is to “have oversight on this,” reiterating that he intends to have the matter investigated. of censorship.
“Let’s face it,” Carter said. “One letter, one inquiry from a congressman, and these companies take it seriously. And when you do those kinds of surveys…or send those kinds of letters, then those companies are going to look into it, and they’re going to take it seriously. »
“That’s why it’s going to be important for us…to make sure…that we have oversight in this area,” Carter concluded.
Rep. Buddy Carter says a top priority for the 118th Congress will be to investigate whether members of Congress influenced Verizon and AT&T in suppressing conservative voices, including OAN. #NAO
