Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anousauskas traveled to Washington to sign an agreement for the purchase of 8 US HIMARS missile launch systems.

Lithuanian Radio and Television reported: “An agreement has been reached regarding the most expensive purchase of the Lithuanian army ever, amounting to 495 million dollars. »

And to continue: “Lithuania will purchase 8 American HIMARS systems, as well as missiles of all kinds, including long-range missiles that reach the target at a distance of 300 kilometers. »

It was stated that “the agreement will be signed by Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anousauskas, who is visiting the United States, knowing that the systems are expected to be delivered to Lithuania in 2025”.

A few days ago, Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins announced that “the Baltic countries are currently carrying out a joint action to acquire the American Himars missile system”.

He added during a press conference he held with his Lithuanian and Estonian counterparts after their meeting in Riga: “Now there is joint work on (the purchase) of HIMARS missile launcher systems, and we will continue to seek other ways to effectively unite our efforts and ensure our individual and collective security”.

The Latvian Prime Minister also clarified that “the Baltic States intend to continue working with NATO allies to ensure the implementation of the agreements resulting from the Madrid summit, during which it was decided to raise the level of NATO force presence in the Baltic States to the level of a permanently deployed division”.

Earlier this month, the Center for Defense Investments (ECDI), affiliated with the Estonian Defense Ministry, announced that Estonia “has signed a $200 million contract with the United States for the purchase of of HIMARS missiles.

But earlier in the day, the commander-in-chief of Ukrainian forces, Valery Zaluzhny, said that “kyiv can no longer strike Russian military sites using American HIMARS missiles”.

Zaluzhny said in an interview with The Economist newspaper, published today, Thursday, that “Russian forces have moved to a distance that HIMARS systems cannot reach, and we have no weapon with a greater range long “.

Russian forces have disabled a large number of HIMARS systems since the US administration began supplying them to kyiv last summer, and many of the system’s missiles that targeted civilians in new Russian areas have been intercepted.
