News Cameroon reports whatGermany will withdraw its troops from Mali by May 2024.
In the air for many days, the withdrawal of German forces from Mali is now official. “The German government decided today to propose to the Bundestag to extend for the last time by one year, in May 2023, the mandate of the Bundeswehr intervention in Mali, so that this intervention ends in a structured way, after ten years“said government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit in a statement.
According to Berlin, this final extension “takes particular account of the elections in Mali, scheduled for February 2024”. A few days ago, a German official hinted that Berlin was going to withdraw its troops from Mali at the end of 2023. Germany justifies its decision by the presence of Wagner’s Russian paramilitaries in Mali. This departure comes after the final withdrawal of the army presence after many years of military engagement.
