Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has been one of the most prominent tax hawks in the House of Representatives since taking office in 2012.
He currently sits on the highly influential House Committee on Oversight and Reform, which is the most important investigative body of the House of Representatives.
This commission investigates fraud, waste and abuse of US taxpayers’ money.
Mr Massie, who will have a more influential role on the commission now that Republicans have a majority, has demanded that no further financial aid be sent to Ukraine until an inspector general conducts an investigation on Ukraine’s use of US funds.
He said American voters “deserve to know” what the United States’ goals are in the conflict and how the funds are being used to serve American interests.
The United States has transferred $54.43 billion worth of military and non-military aid to the government of Ukraine since this month.
Breitbart Reports: During an appearance on FNC’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Wednesday, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) called for a closer look at the taxpayer dollars being used to fund the defense effort in Ukraine.
The Kentucky Republican argued for an audit and investigation by the inspector general before Congress appropriates more money for Ukraine.
“We should absolutely refuse to send another penny there until we get an audit and an inspector general,” he said. “Senator Rand Paul tried to take a stand in the Senate, he only got 11 of his colleagues there to agree that we need an Inspector General. Look, in Afghanistan we were spending about $50 billion a year. We’re about to spend about twice that amount in Ukraine, and we had an inspector general in Afghanistan. We absolutely need it here.
“We have uncovered all sorts of waste, fraud and abuse by Inspector General John Sopko, so we need one here in Ukraine immediately, and we shouldn’t be spending more money,” he said. said Mr. Massie.
