During a meeting with young entrepreneurs on June 9 in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that there was no alternative for a country between being sovereign and being “a colony”.
Russian Head of State Vladimir Putin took advantage of a meeting with young entrepreneurs on June 9 in Moscow to discuss his vision of international relations. And, in particular, of the sovereignty of nations: “In any field, each country, each people, each ethnic group must undoubtedly ensure its sovereignty. Because there are no intermediate elements, no intermediate state. Either the country is sovereign or it is a colony. Whatever the name [que l’on donne à ] the colony”, underlined the Head of State.
These statements come in an international context marked, for Russia, by its military operation in Ukraine and the tensions with Western nations that largely result from it. kyiv and its Western allies accuse Russia of violating Ukraine’s sovereignty by waging a war of invasion; Moscow, for its part, launched its offensive in the name of protecting the populations of Donbass as well as the “demilitarization” and “denazification” of Ukraine. With regard to the theme of national sovereignty as well, the Russian authorities regularly accuse the countries allied to the United States – and in particular the member countries of the European Union – of sacrifice their independence to the interests of American power.
